Covering Up

Here you can easily see how much the feathers on the darker chick have grown in just from the previous day - when those feathers do start to unfurl, it never takes more than a day at most, often less, til the baby bird has a fully insulating cover.

They are now fourteen and thirteen days old, and almost adult size. Dolly has been occasionally still trying to sit on the nest, but now seems to have given the idea up, as it is impossible to stay balanced on this heap... Besides, they can stay warm all on their own now!

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
