Pinfeathers

By the morning of Mother's Day, the chicks are beginning to look more like little birds. They are now 8 and 7 days old, respectively, and their pin feathers are well underway.

These 'pins' are quite sensitive to the touch, and there is much rumbling about inside the nest these days - like people sharing a waterbed, if one moves, it disturbs all the others.

Can you see the little bits of food still stuck to Dan's beak?

The pinfeathers are very distinct now, and will be unfurling soon.

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
