Welcome to the

Canary Cam Archives

Not a Tumor

This picture shows what a full crop looks like on a baby bird. Many's the beginning breeder who has gone into a panic at the sight of that big yellowish bulge on the side of the chick's neck, thinking their precious babies have developed cancerous tumors or some such.

Usually the relief is strong enough to lessen the feeling of foolishness which accompanies the discovery of what that bulge really is - in human fashion, we always seem to think we should have realized the truth for ourselves.

These chicks have very full crops!

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
