Taking Turns

After the first critical feeding of the day, Dolly and Dan begin to take turns - one feeds the chicks, while the other fills his or her crop with more baby food.

This keeps the chicks fairly steadily fed, and means it keeps things a little quieter in the cage - the babies' voices are growing right along with their bodies.

They will doze for a little while between feedings, but as you can see, wake up already imperiously voicing their demands.

The parents are now taking turns, one feeding while the other 'fills up the tank'

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
