Welcome to the

Canary Cam Archives

Nest-Building

Soon more fibres have appeared in the nest, and the cage becomes a whirlwind of activity, the excited birds flitting busily all about. Peanut, the hen, as seen here, keeps busy pulling more and more nesting material from the wire rack near her nestpan. Nesting material is strewn everywhere, but its appearance in the nest is no accident.

Peanut is a soft-feathered (non-intensive) varigated red lipochrome canary by inheritance, but she was not colourfed except with shredded carrots which she disdained to eat, and so she looks yellow. Yes, diet can change the colour of a canary's colour, quite drastically!

This site is dedicated to all of those who try to help others on our journey to a better
tomorrow, and especially to Jack Merkens, whose last words to me were "Promise
me you'll keep writing about those canaries! Never stop, ok? Promise!"
Okay, Jack. I promise.
